Detailed Job Description

The School of Design in the College of Art and Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to teach in the Industrial Design program. The Industrial Design program focuses on developing strong conceptual and formal design skills by engaging students in the theory, process, and practice of design throughout the undergraduate and graduate curriculums. The Industrial Design program is consistently ranked amongst the top programs in the nation for undergraduate and graduate study.

We invite applications from accomplished designers and educators with significant professional expertise. The successful candidate will demonstrate the capacity to teach comprehensively across the Industrial Design curriculum and exhibit leadership and strategic vision in advancing the program. A strong emphasis will be placed on candidates with a proven ability to integrate emerging technologies and methodologies into the curriculum, particularly those with experience or scholarly interest in the application of AI tools within the discipline.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the candidate will engage in research, scholarship and creative practice, contribute to curriculum development, advise students, and provide service to the university, college, department, and profession.

THE DEPARTMENT:
The School of Design offers a diverse range of programs, including five undergraduate and three graduate degrees, along with the renowned Vignelli Center for Design Studies. Our undergraduate programs include 3D Digital Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and New Media Design, while graduate students can pursue degrees in Visual Communication Design and Industrial Design. With approximately 820 undergraduates and 90 graduate students, RIT's School of Design is a dynamic community where creativity and innovation thrive. Required Minimum Qualifications

• A terminal degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Interaction Design (MFA, MID, PhD), or a terminal degree in a related field of study.
• Minimum of two years professional experience or extensive consulting in a relevant field.
• Minimum of two years teaching experience in a relevant field at the university level.
• Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in one or more of the following: product design, user experience and interaction design, service design, automotive design, design and sustainability, design and technology, soft product design, emerging industrial design practices, design theory, design history, design methodology.
• Experience with visualization and communication skills common in applied design process and practice.
• Interest or experience in AI related to their field
• Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
