BriefThere are many forms of discrimination. The ones we are not even aware of may be the scariest. Women worldwide experience a 4-year diagnostic delay compared to men, and only 1 in 5 women is correctly diagnosed. And nobody talks about it. However, much like addressing inequality between men and women, gender-specific medicine demands more attention and positive change. How can we help shift the balance towards women and their specific medical needs? Can we promote an equal right to care and educate the public in a world crowded with inequalities? For Women’s Health Day on April 22, 2023 we launched #curiamoledifferenze, a campaign that gives a voice to gender difference in medicine. We uncovered and highlighted the most shocking differences in symptoms or incidences between genders and used them to challenge the negative stereotypes that women are still associated with in our country, Italy. As part of #curiamoledifferenze, we held an advocacy event, partnering with the Women4Oncology association and the Università Cattolica of Milan and including oncologists, linguistics experts, and psychologists.
