TitleLessons of Auschwitz Volumetric VR illustration tribute by Moscow school students
BriefThe Holocaust. One of the most inhumane events in history in which approximately 6 million Jews were deliberately and systematically exterminated during World War II by the nazis. But as time passes, so do the Holocaust survivors. The commemorative link between generations is dimming. Today, in a mostly digital world, it is important to restore the gap and keep younger generations interested in learning history. With this project we aimed to create a kind of “ethereal tribute”. Young artists create their illustrations in VR by literally drawing with virtual brushes in the air. Similarly the soundtrack reflects this method — generated by interacting with the help of the world's only touchless musical instrument — the theremin. Our actors are transformed into digital avatars through volumetric capture and all elements combine in a metaphorical world where historical memory lives in a digital, experiential space.
