Problem: As of 2018, the most commonly spoken languages in South African households were isiZulu (25.3%), isiXhosa (14.8%), and Afrikaans (12.2%). English is the sixth most common language spoken in South African households at 8.1%. Despite South Africa being a diverse country with 11 official languages, many digital banners are primarily in English and are not engaging enough for most South Africans. This poses several challenges and missed opportunities for effective communication and engagement.
Solution: Wimpy welcomes all South Africans, whatever language they speak. As South Africans, we might speak different languages, but we understand each other when it comes to Wimpy's new offering. Whether you speak isiZulu, seTswana, xiTsonga, Afrikaans, or even English, a Wimpy Burger and Shake Combo is universally recognized. We collaborated with Rebel Rebel, a creative tech company specializing in conversational display ad units for brands, and Mother Tongue Media, which operates the largest network of websites publishing content in all South African languages, to create 'The Most Welcoming Digital Banners'. These engaging ad units were published on websites featuring content in isiZulu and isiXhosa, facilitating one-on-one interactions between the Wimpy Burger and Shake Promo and consumers.
